2013 Actual Size Biennial
2013 Actual Size Biennial
100+ local, national and international based artists return to
Detroit for the largest exhibit of the season.
September 14 – October 19, 2013
Reception: Saturday, September 14, 6 pm – 10 pm
Lead Curator: Aaron Timlin
More than 100 local and national based visual artists will show works in all mediums in the 2013 Actual Size Biennial at Whitdel Arts and detroit contemporary.
“This is an important exhibition for Detroit in that it provides a broad array of our vibrant and talented visual art community here,” said Aaron Timlin, curator of the exhibition. This year Timlin assembled a curatorial advisory team who invited artists to create one work in any medium, 2-D or 3-D, with the only stipulation being that at least two dimensions are postcard size (4 ¼” x 5 ½”), letter size (8 ½” x 11”) or legal size (8 ½” x 14”). This is the first year in the biennial’s fourteen-year history that artists have three dimensions to choose from.
The curatorial advisory team includes Gualberto Orozco, Jane Larson, JenClare Gawaran, Rachel Bourgault, and Rebecca Vogel-McGowan.
Participating artists include local, national and a few international based emerging and established artists who, over the last five decades, have each had an impact on the Detroit art scene in one way or another. A full list of artists is below.
