Alice Gadzinski

March 7  – April 19, 2014

Opening Reception: March 7, 7-10

Alice Gadzinski, in her own words, “raised a sparkly middle finger,” to the whiny, woe-is-me attitude prevalent during her BFA.  Instead, she presents the human experience, good & bad, from a delightfully sarcastic stance.  Paraphernalia oozing nostalgia, collected at garage sales & flea markets, is recontextualized to present an honest kind of adolescence that is, of course, as warped as the next person’s. Gadzinski’s elaborate, shrine-esque sculptures deal with delusions of social standards, relationships and sexuality with a wave of camp. Camp enough to bathe in.  Each piece sucks the viewer in and demands them to seek out every hilarious, profane detail before moving on to the next.  Whitdel Arts invites you to join us & raise your own appropriately decorated middle finger.

This exhibition will run from March 7th – April 19th.  Open gallery hours are Saturdays during exhibitions, noon-3pm & for ArtDetroitNow’s Third Thursday on  March 20th & April 19th from 7-9pm.  For more information, email Rachel Bourgault at
