January 10 – February 22, 2014
Opening Reception: Friday, Jan. 10, 7-10 pm

Have you ever been so inspired by somebody that you’re seeing them everywhere? Gilda Snowden is somebody who can have that effect. Never met her? Now’s your chance to get a glimpse into that inspired state of mind. Anything you can think of in the city of Detroit, Gilda has been there, done that. Born and educated in Detroit, Gilda has become a local legend and internationally renowned artist. All the while she keeps her roots in Detroit, spreading her positivity and creative passion through her teaching & community involvement.

This exhibition of Gilda portraits (some self) is intended to pay tribute, celebrate & show just how many people Gilda has impacted. Curated by Craig Paul Nowak & Alonso Del Arte, GILDED features nationwide established artists working in clay, fluorescents, oil & spray paint to name a few. The portraits span almost as long as Gilda’s career, with pieces created in the 80’s, as well as work new for this exhibition. Each artist and their work are vastly different, but they are all connected by that little gold dusting they got from Gilda’s instruction or influence, reverberated through portraiture of her.

We will also be featuring two of Gilda’s current CCS students, Austin Brady and Fatima Sow in our emerging artist gallery. Students under the same professor, with two wonderfully different results of that instruction.

The exhibition will run from January 10th – February 22nd, 2014. Open gallery hours are Saturdays during exhibitions, noon-3pm & for Art Detroit Now’s Third Thursday on Jan. 16th & Feb. 20th. For more information, email
