Jordyn Fishman: Ouch!

On March 1, 2019

March 1 – March 23, 2019
Reception: Friday, March 1, 7:00 – 10:00pm

Whitdel Arts is pleased to present the work of Michigan emerging artist Jordyn Fishman in an upcoming solo exhibition. Fishman’s prints and large-scale paintings tackle current issues faced by women and the experiences resulting from gender dynamics.

Artist Statement:
Women walk through the world facing constant experiences that remind them of the unequal power dynamics between men and women. The belittlement that we experience on a daily basis can be minimal, like a man expressing amazement that we can lift a box. However, more harmful aspects of these dynamics also occur, like sexual violence. I’m interested in how daily occurrences reflect the culture of sexual violence and the internal struggle that women face in the aftermath of such experiences. My work asks women to consider the significance of their bodies; I want to help women reimagine themselves. I intend to use my voice to foster solidarity and community building efforts in order to initiate dialogue and change regarding the culture of sexual violence. I aspire to aid women in feeling more comforted and understood when they view my work.

Please join us for an opening reception for the artist on Friday, March 1, 7:00 – 10:00pm.

The exhibition will run from March 1 – March 23, 2019. This event is free and open to the public. All ages welcome. Open gallery hours are during Friday evening opening receptions (7-10pm), Saturdays (noon-3pm) starting the 2nd week of exhibitions and by appointment. For more information, e-mail Jane Larson at
