Sky Minded – Work by Nicole Richards

Whitdel Arts is proud to present its next emerging artist, Nicole Richards. She explores avenues of science and spirituality through delicate and thoughtful works of printmaking and installation. Please join us for an opening reception for the artist on Friday, December 4, 2015.

“There is a duality to the way I think about the world and my artwork. In one hemisphere is the concrete, the facts we think we know regarding the natural world. As humans, we are born to categorize species, genus, and phylum. We are bound to seek patterns in flight migrations, the reasons rocks take the shapes they do and why the sky changes color. Non-human groups of animals have consistently captivated me with their seemingly abstract movements and fascinating agendas. Animals have a host of senses unavailable to humans, and my work is an exploration of those avenues of instinct and thought. The main thrust of my current body of work has to do with the flocking and migratory patterns of birds.

“Groups of birds become trains of thought for me, on paper, canvas and wall space. The sky is the mind’s canvas, on which intuition is written in bird-script. My artwork seeks to explore the esoteric realm and the wonder of science, traveling down both branches simultaneously, seeking comprehension, and harmony between the two.”

The exhibition will run from December 4, 2015 through January 23, 2016. This event is free and open to the public.  All ages welcome.  Open gallery hours are during exhibitions, Saturdays (noon-3pm), 3rd Thursdays (7-9pm) or by appointment.  For more information, e-mail JenClare Gawaran at For a full schedule of exhibitions and events at Whitdel Arts, please visit
